Once upon a time, there was pizza. And a pandemic.
On one fateful day in 2020, a group of friends were huddled around a table laden with thin-crust margarita pizzas.
Under the shadow of the ever-present pandemic, they sought comfort with the familiar golden ratio of tomato, cheese, and dough. As they collectively yearned for the day they would no longer have to wear masks or swab their throats, they began to dream.
What would they do post-pandemic? Flee? Travel? Go home?
Most would. But one would not.
As each friend took their last bite and dusted crumbs off their fingers, one friend quietly revealed an idea she’d be mulling over for quite some time.
“I’m thinking of opening a creative agency in Shanghai.”
Opening a business during a global pandemic was objectively a bad idea. Illogical. Risky. Mad.
But she did it anyway.
And so on July 2020, Bright Design Studio was born
And 11 awards later, we’re still here.

Elaine Chew
FOUNDER/BRAND DIRECTOR
Elaine is a graduate of Harvard Business School in Global Business + Strategy. She graduated from Northumbria University, UK in BA Hons Graphic Design majoring in Image-making, and visual communication through infographic, illustration, and social media marketing via design. She also has a UI/UX Design certification from (CalArts) California Institute of the Arts, USA + Design Strategy + Entrepreneurship certification from University of Sydney, Australia.
She has worked in several countries from the UK, Singapore, to now more than 4 years in Shanghai in Big companies and PR/Design agencies and companies like Viscosoft, Muse, Matrix (US-France-SH), Kollektiv (Global + Local companies like Boston Scientific, IHG Hotels, Sproutworks, EMW winery, Space, & others), Empress (SH-Canada) for events + business branding proposals. She has more than 5 years of experiences in Graphic design & Digital Marketing in global and local markets.
Elaine has won up to 11 Awards up to date since setting up Bright Design Studio in July 2020 and has been featured in numerous publications such as THEADREVIEW (Canadian entrepreneur news) + FilmDaily, UK. She is known as one of the Most Innovative + Creative Entrepreneur in China.
Elaine is fluent in English, Chinese, Bahasa Melayu and currently learning Spanish. She is from Brunei, Southeast Asia.

Graduated from MA. Fashion Direction: Brand + Communication management , Milan, Italy and BA Digital Media Design, Shanghai, China. He is highly skilled over 7 years experience in App Ui, Website, Logo and Graphic Design while working with agencies. Previous clients are: FENDI, Victoria’s Secret, Breitling, Montenapoleone, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to name a few.
